Another successful Summer Reading Club program has come to an end. The library has once again given children an unforgettable summer of story-time afternoons, crafts and a Dino hike. This summer lapsit for babies 0-24 months continued which was a nice addition to the summer program. The reading club wrap up was held August 20th. There were approximately 50 people in attendance to collect their much deserved prizes and to celebrate with cake and ice-cream.
Excitement filled the air and children fidgeted while listening to the chosen stories for the afternoon. Children who handed in their reading logs were then moved to the prize area to pick a prize of their choosing. To make the process a little smoother, there were three tables set up for the three different age categories. Books, puzzles, games and skateboards were just a few of the great prizes children could choose from.
There were 1207 children who attended story time, craft time and lapsit. 85 readers read a total of 2,612 books. This number may even be higher as these are the numbers only from the reading logs handed in. Sharon Bray, Children?s Librarian, stated she was very happy with the program this year. Many children took advantage of the free programming offered.
Top readers for this summer were Ronan Deeley, (0-5yrs category), with 261 read to me books, Hailee Jimeno (6-8yrs category) and Kelly Fry (9-12yrs category).
A huge thank you goes out to all of the library staff and volunteers for another successful summer!
