Lisa Morin and Matthew Hanson took ten months off in 2006 to tour Europe and South America. One of their stops was Chile where they stopped to tour this truly awesome geyser.
El Tatio Geyser Field (locally known as Los Géiseres del Tatio) is located within the Andes Mountains of northern Chile at 4,200 meters above sea level. It is one of the highest geyser fields in the world. Tourists often visit the geysers while touring the nearby Atacama Desert and the village of San Pedro de Atacama. ?With over 80 active geysers, El Tatio is the largest geyser field in the southern hemisphere and the third largest field in the world, after Yellowstone, USA, and one in Russia.
?Though possessing numerous geysers, none erupt very high. The highest eruption observed has been around six meters in height. ?El Tatio? can be translated as ?the grandfather? in Spanish.
