This year the young people?s drama club is starting off with a howl! Theatre On The Ridge will be hosting a Haunted House fundraiser on October 23rd at the Community Centre, in rooms 2, 3 & 4 from 6:00-9:00 pm and it promises to be ghoulishly great. All ages welcome, although not recommended for kids under 8.
The tricks and treats they have planned are not for the faint of heart. Admission for the main tour is $2 a person. As well, a side room for younger kids will be there in the event that anyone under 8 changes their mind about going in. The ?safety room? admission is $1 and will have a colouring craft, small treat and viewing of ?It?s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown?.
Theatre On The Ridge has been putting on productions for nearly three years. It is an open registration club to ideally aged 6-18. For those not-as-young actors, fear not, Theatre On The Ridge has expanded and has formed an adult theatre company, Grizzly Valley Players for folks over 18.
The Young People?s Drama group has put on talent shows, plays and now their first haunted house. Director, writer and drama leader Erin Hanna enourages all ages to join the club. She plans to have the older youth doing some heavier stuff this year. The past few years have been primarily light, comedic fare, but this year there may be a bit more dramatic content. This takes commitment, dedication and a real love of performance. Hanna feels this is the beginning of some constructive work for the kids in drama. ?I?ve watched them as shy, timid kids come into being these big as life stage actors, it?s great. They started with some easier roles and I am hoping to develop the emotions of characters a bit more. We need lots of older kids as well, to pull off the kinds of productions I am hoping for.?
This event is supported by TRCAC (Arts Council), TR Public Library and TRUMP. Special thanks go to the District and Community Centre for use of room 4, as well as Rob Mackay and TR Building Supplies for the kind donation of materials used for this production. Community support is crucial to the club and they are very appreciative of TR Building Supplies generosity. Please keep this club in mind when cleaning out your closets and homes, as they are always looking for costuming and props.
The club would like to continue with workshops and events that encourage the members to learn about stage and acting, as well as perform. For further information, please contact Erin Hanna at 242-3364 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org. You can log on to the club website: www.geocities.com/theatreontheridge. The club meets at 4:00 every Thursday afternoon in room 3 of the Community Center if you wish to pop in and see if you?d like to join. There is an annual membership fee of $20 which goes towards production costs.
Break a leg, Theatre On The Ridge!
