The plan to cap off BC Arts and Culture Week at the end of April will be the presentation of the third annual TR Junior Idol vocal competition. The weeklong province wide celebration takes place April 19-26, with TR Junior Idol taking place Saturday, April 25.
The event is an opportunity for the youth of Tumbler Ridge to come out and show the community their chops. Annually sponsored by the District of Tumbler Ridge, it is coordinated by the Community Centre?s programmer, Joy MacKay. The stage production and judges are coordinated through the Tumbler Ridge Community Arts Council.
The deadlines for this competition are as follows:
Registration: (guardian?s signature) – Front Desk – Community Centre – Thursday, April 9
Audition: Tuesday, April 14 at 6:30 pm (Room 3, Community Centre)
Final competition: – Saturday, April 25.
There will be opportunity for those who make it through the audition, to practice other elements, such as working with a microphone, using stage presence and other tips to help contestants get prepared prior to competition. The judges for this year?s Idol are: Charissa Tonnesen, Charmaine Shirley and Lori Homister. The judges? responsibility is to assess the contestants? audition, choose whether they go on to competition and are on hand at the final show in the event of a tiebreaker. In the two previous years of this competition, there has not been a need for a tiebreaker, as the audience votes for the winner in each age category.
So come on out and show our talented youth we support them in this fun afternoon venue. Sponsors for the event will be posted at the venue and also published in the event program.
