On September 27th the TR Children?s Centre opened it?s doors for the 2005/06 season. There were 16 children ages three and four enrolled in the program, with six waiting for an opening. At the Annual General Meeting held in September it was decided by the board to open up afternoon classes on Tuesday and Thursday to accommodate these children. The afternoon class has now grown to nine children. With the increase of activity in the community there has been a greater demand for the play school program. There have been expressions of interest in the community to provide a full time daycare, and the Board is looking at this option. Surveys will be circulated in the community to determine the need for this service.
The Children?s Centre is a non-profit organization that relies on enrolment and fundraising. This year the board decided to look for corporate sponsors to assist with maintaining the high level of program delivery. Northern Energy and Mining Inc. (NEMI) was the first to respond to the sponsorship request and generously donated $500. The Children?s Centre Board is pleased to see such a quick response for this request and hopes that other companies are also considering sponsorship of the Children?s Centre.
The Centre offers an essential developmental service to the young children of Tumbler Ridge.
