The Tumbler Ridge Elementary team in Northern Health’s My Healthy Workplace Challenge has taken top spot in the Northeast. The facebook contest, where teams of up to ten people from workplaces uploaded three photos that illustrated the concept of balancing a healthy lifestyle with work based on themes that were assigned each week. These photos were then posted to Northern Health’s Facebook page and were voted on by the general public.
Tumbler Ridge placed second overall, with 488 votes, behind Team Citius Altius Fortius from DP Todd Secondary School in Prince George, and had the most votes of any team in the Northeast.
In Week one, the assignment was to submit a photo and a short write-up on “how they incorporate safety and health into their work days to create an environment of workplace wellness.” In week two, the assignment was to show “how they reduce sedentary behaviour and incorporate physical activity into their work day.” And in week three, teams showed how they eat healthy at work and make healthy choices accessible in the workplace.
The team wins a $500 prize package, including a luncheon, water bottles and pedometers.
