TRENDS Encourages Involvement In Tumbler Ridge Visioning and Labour Market Planning Project

As some of you are aware, there have been buzz words about the Tumbler Ridge Visioning and Labour Market Planning Project around town. When this project first came into the works, Tumbler Ridge Employment Needs Development Services immediately jumped in and asked to be involved, which led to a partnership with the Economic Development Department (District of Tumbler Ridge), Tumbler Ridge Community Arts Council, Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and Northern Lights College (Tumbler Ridge Campus). Not only was this project looking at the local labour market, but also at a community vision. TRENDS is interested in what the community wants for the future and what services TRENDS could provide to assist with community needs and wants.

The Tumbler Ridge Visioning and Labour Market Planning Project (funded by the Government of Canada) is fast approaching its final stages; however, the partners are hoping to see the end of the project as a start to the implementation of the findings in the final report. From the TRENDS perspective we are concerned that there may be service gaps in the current employment services. The community indicated the need for TRENDS to expand their services to enhance local hiring. In response to this need, TRENDS hosted a job fair in November 2005 where residents networked with the local industries and were able to hand them a resume.

Other employment services related request derived from this report will be looked at and discussed with Human Resources Development Canada to see if TRENDS could implement them into its current services. If you are interested in what the final report for the Tumbler Ridge Visioning and Labour Market Planning Project indicates, it will be posted on March 9, 2006 on the website.
