The Tumbler Ridge Secondary School track and field team travelled to Grande Prairie on 10 May for the annual Peace River Classic athletics meet. The team, with sixteen members (and one runner from Tumbler Ridge Elementary), was the biggest in years, a testimony to the enthusiasm of the kids and the able coaching of Mrs. Sharman, Mrs. Helm and Mr Hogg. For the first time in may years TRSS was able to field a boys? relay team and junior and senior girls? relay teams. For some of the seasoned veterans of the last few years it was great having the extra company and support, while for the newcomers there were many novel experiences. All the athletes gave of their best, and there were some outstanding early season results and many a gold medal. These performances will stand them in good stead for the Zone 8 Meet in Prince George in two weeks, at which they will try to qualify for berths at the BC Provincial Championships.
