?Hey, you got to start some where?, was the reflective analysis of Coach Dan Golob after the Tumbler Ridge girl?s hockey team completed their first tournament in Ft. St. John on the weekend. ?We have a roster of 13 girls, and 11 of them have never played organized hockey before. And all 13 players came to play in the tournament; no excuses, no scratches?.
The team played three games against much more experienced Dawson Creek and Ft St. John teams. Sharla Martin played very well in net for the team, doing her part by stopping the first shot the majority of the time. Amanda Kruse scored a big goal for the team with a backhander that flew by the goalie.
?We just can?t measure the team by wins right now?, noted Associate Coach Scott Trim. ?This is all brand new, and the whole team is on a big learning curve. Every shift they are getting stronger. Most importantly, everyone is having fun out there. I?m having fun. This is a lot of fun.?
The team will continue practicing and looks forward to the next opportunity to play. ?All the kids had fun and that is what we are here for?, announced Shelley Leach, proud mom/hockey supporter.
The team consists of Sharla Martin, Amanda Thomas, Kelsey and Danielle Legault, Danielle and Bianca Golob, Krista and Kara Trim, Shana Fallon, Brittany Leach, Britanny Cyr, Samantha Southwick and Amanda Kruse.
