The outgoing Town Council asked the Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation (TRMF) to submit a proposal for the development of the Dinosaur Discovery Gallery in the Community Centre, which would involve moving the Indoor Playground downstairs. The TRMF intended such a proposal as a win-win situation, one that would provide maximum benefit to the diversification of the Tumbler Ridge economy while not inconveniencing the kids or their parents. From the outset the TRMF made it clear that if during the public consultation process it became apparent that there was no consensus on such a development, the proposal would be withdrawn.
It is now evident that there are many people in the community who enjoy the Indoor Playground in its current location, and do not wish to see it moved. Accordingly, the TRMF has no interest in pursuing this proposal further ? to do so would only promote division, which would be in strong contrast to the original intent of uniting and benefiting the community.
The discussion which has ensued has opened other issues for constructive debate, in addition to focusing on the obvious need to create adequate space for the Museum displays and develop long term economic diversification. Issues regarding child safety and parental supervision at the playground have been raised, and may be addressed as a result.
The Dinosaur Discovery Gallery will be developed at one of the alternative locations and can still fulfill its huge potential for the community and region. The TRMF would like to thank all those involved in these deliberations who approached the issue in a positive manner and allowed this fruitful discussion.
