The TRSS Senior Girls Basketball team had a very busy season. Coaches Mrs. Proulx and Mrs. Sharman started off with practices beginning in late November, and were pleased to have a dedicated group of 14 girls coming out on a regular basis. The team had one home game before the Christmas break, and several cancelled games and tournaments due to poor weather in December and January. The pace then picked up, and there was a home tournament in January, and games in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek. A highlight was having a very close game against South Peace SS, in which TRSS squeaked out a win by 2 points. There was also a fun trip to Fort Nelson with the TRSS boys? team, where each Tumbler Ridge team played four games against Fort Nelson.
The final tournament of the season was Zones in Prince George in mid-February. Tumbler Ridge went in ranked 9 out of 11 teams, and played an excellent first game to beat Burns Lake and move into 8th place. The remaining three games were tough, but the girls played well and showed excellent defense. At the awards ceremony following the final game, Tumbler Ridge received the trophy for ?Most Sportsmanlike Team?. This came as no surprise to the coaches, who enjoyed working with this group of dedicated girls.
Congratulations go out to all of the girls on a very successful season. Best wishes to the two graduating girls, Tiffany and Megan, who will be missed next year. The coaches are looking forward to a great season next year, and hope to have fewer injuries ? there was a broken ankle, stitches in an ear, and one appendix which was removed in Prince George!
