Tumbler Ridge Senior Secondary

Hello everyone. We have started the second term and are moving full steam ahead. Term One report cards will be released on December 1/06.

Challenge Days

On Nov. 1 and 2, TRSS hosted Challenge Days. For the students and adults that participated, I think they would all agree that it was an incredible experience!

A big thank you to Mr. Deeley who spent an incredible amount of time preparing for Challenge Days. We would also like to thank Mrs. Zatwarniski, Mrs. Lenart, Mrs. Kruse, Mrs. Proulx, Mrs. Crispin, all of the adult volunteers, and all the student leaders (Challenge Days wouldnt have been possible without you). A big thank you to the RCMP Musical Ride and Cpl. Peats for assisting with some of the costs associated with Challenge Days and to TRE for allowing us to use their gym.

As a follow up to Challenge Days, TRSS will be doing Secret Buddies. Students that have signed up, have already been paired up with their Secret Buddy.

Parent Advisory Council: TRSS Parent Advisory Council is a combined PAC with the Tumbler Ridge Elementary PAC. There are monthly meetings to which anyone is welcome to come. The settings are informal and there are always ways parents can get involved to make a difference in their childrens school years. Our next meeting is on Dec.7th at 7:00 p.m. at T.R.E. . If you have any questions or would like to know how to get involved with this group please call Linda Helm at 242 3984.

School District 59 is in the process of re-writing its vision and mission statements. If you would like to contribute to this process, please contact PAC president Linda Helm.

Satisfaction Surveys

Starting in January, parents, school staff and students in grades 7, 10 and 12 will have the opportunity to complete Satisfaction Surveys. The school will be able to provide parents with a paper copy to complete or a code enabling the survey to be completed online. For more information please see: http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/ .

TRSS Leadership: The TRSS Leadership group is off to a great start again this year. Elections were held recently. Natalie Cameron is the President of the group with Daniel Helm taking on the role of Senior Vice President. This year we have two junior Vice Presidents, Caitlyn McWhirter and Murphy Taylor. Kathryn Rosseau is Secretary. These students along with the rest of the Leadership council meet once a week to plan and discuss ways to enhance the school culture. This year they have decided to produce a school yearbook and will therefore be kept busy with this endeavor as well. One of the activities they are sponsoring now is an arm wrestling contest at the school. This group of students is always receptive to new ideas and has established a suggestion box at the school so students and staff can provide some feedback for what they would like to see happen at the school. Another program that they sponsor is the Positive Person Program. This is a Program that recognizes positive contributions people have made at TRSS. The Leadership group is comprised of a group of motivated students who want to make a difference in their school.

The band class will be performing a Christmas concert on Wednesday December 20, at 7:00 pm in the gym.
