TUMBLER RIDGE SENIOR SECONDARY STUDENT TO ATTEND BC YOUTH PARLIAMENT

Tiffany Hetenyi, who moved to Tumbler Ridge from Dawson Creek in 2007 to complete her Grade 12 education, has been accepted into the prestigious BC Youth Parliament. This annual event, which draws 95 of the top students from BC, takes place from 27 December 2007 to January 1, 2008. It began in 1924 and in 2007 will be in its 79th session.

The students, always in formal dress, gather in the Legislative Assembly Chambers, learn about parliamentary process, debate topics of interest, and vote on proposed activities according to due parliamentary procedure. Bills passed are put into effect, and lead to a number of worthwhile initiatives for the youth of BC. The motto is ?Youth Serving Youth?, and many wonderful things have resulted in the past, as a result of youth like Tiffany giving up a week of their Christmas vacation, maximizing their potential to work for the greater good.

Tiffany had to submit a formal application and an essay on why she thought she would be well suited to attend the Parliament, and was one of the successful applicants. Her costs of flying to Vancouver and then crossing to Victoria will be covered. Tiiffany is looking forward immensely to the challenge and privilege of being part of this initiative. During her short time in Tumbler Ridge she has distinguished herself in sport, leadership and academics, and is clearly an ideal candidate to represent Tumbler Ridge and TRSS at BC Youth Parliament.
