At the close of last weeks column I mentioned that I would probably not be writing again until after the B.C. Seniors Games in Prince George in September. Obviously I was wrong because here I am. I think, perhaps subconsciously, I knew I wasn?t going to want to write this column for reasons that will become clear as I progress.
On Wednesday, June 18 we had a good turnout for Seniors Golf again. 14 brave souls faced the elements and each other in a rousing 9 holes of the usual flawless golf. Well, perhaps I exaggerate just a tad. It wasn?t all flawless, but close. OK so, in a lot of cases it couldn?t even be called golf but a fun time was had by all. The winners were Gerry Fraser, Marleen Lang, Ken Hammond and Brandon Walsh. Congratulations group. I?m told by a very reliable source that we may even be fed lunch next week in the beautiful newly refurbished but barely used Clubhouse. We?ll look forward to that.
NOW…… for the REALLY BIG …Seniors news. On Tuesday, June 17, 6 of us went up to Ft. St. John and played The Links course in the playdowns for the Seniors Games. They were Joan Sidwell, Colleen Gies, Ed & Martha Kennedy and Pat & Gerry Fraser. The weather started off rather cold and rainy but after the first few holes the clouds parted and it was a glorious day for golf. The wonderful news is that all of us will be attending the Games in Prince George. However one of us won?t be going as a participant because she played as though she had never had a club in her hand before that day. I?m not going to tell you which one it was but suffice it to say the games won?t hold the same appeal for yours truly this year. I feel just terrible about it as it means that someone else will have to take over the honour of LAST PLACE. Good Luck to all the rest and I know you?ll enjoy the trip.
