Tumbler Ridge Smokee Blue Starts Tournament

The Tumbler Ridge Smokee Blue Stars Atom hockey team played in a tournament last week in Clearview. The Stars finished 3rd in the tournament. The Team started off strong with a 9-2 win over Fort St. John Northern Vac service team. Starting the scoring was Eric Golob who had 3 goals and 3 helpers. Followed by Aaron Wylie with 3 goals and 1 assist. Jared Wylie had 2 goals and Caleb Cyr notch a single.

The Stars played their second game in the afternoon against the host Clearview and played hard and had excellent goalkeeping from Andrew Leach but came up short losing 11-4. Eric Golob had 3 goals along with Liam Southwick scoring his first of the tournament.

The boys played their third game on Sunday against FSJ Wal-mart. The game was for 3rd place. The Stars started off quickly in the first with Golob passing the puck into the slot where Aaron Wylie put it by the FSJ Wal-mart goalie. Wylie scored 3 goals and had 1 assist and Golob recorded 3 goals and had 2 assists. The game was all tied up going into the 3rd period. With two quick goals by the Stars forwards Golob and Cyr in the 3rd. The Stars held the lead until FSJ scored with just 2 minutes left in the game to tie. With overtime looming Aaron Wylie took a pass at centre ice and skated pass two defenders to push the puck pass the FSJ goalie with 1.14 on the clock. The Stars held off the pressure of the FSJ forwards with the hard work of the Stars defense and with another strong game from Leach in net. Brian Wylie said that ?the last 2 minutes of the game were the most exciting of the season?. Coach Dan Golob said that the team play very well and all the hard work during practice is starting to show.
