TUMBLER RIDGE SPORTS HALL OF FAME ? CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation is calling for nominations for the Tumbler Ridge Sports Hall of Fame. Eight outstanding sports people have been inducted since its opening in 2006. The next induction ceremony will take place in late January 2010, in the lead-up to the Olympic Torch Relay celebrations in Tumbler Ridge.

This exhibit is housed in the downstairs section of the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre, and is something that all Tumbler Ridge residents (past, present and future) and visitors are able to cherish. It acts as an inspiration in the pursuit of excellence for the next generation of Tumbler Ridge sporting greats.

The selection committee comprises of the Mayor of Tumbler Ridge, the Director of the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre, and the President of the Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation.

Nominations may be submitted to: Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation, Box 1348, Tumbler Ridge, BC, V0C 2W0 or given in writing to the TRMF President, Charissa Tonnesen.

Nominations should take into account the following CRITERIA that will be used in evaluating a nomination:

Athletes: Must have represented their sport with distinction at an international, national or provincial level, and must have been a resident in Tumbler Ridge for at least three years.

 Teams: Must have represented their sport and Tumbler Ridge at an international, national or provincial level.

Builders: Must have enhanced sport or outdoor recreation in Tumbler Ridge over at least a ten year period (in such fields as leadership, coaching, refereeing, administration, media).

 Retroactive: The individual must have been a resident in Tumbler Ridge for at least five years, and represented his/her sport with distinction at a national or international level, prior to arriving in Tumbler Ridge.

 For an individual or team to be inducted into the Tumbler Ridge Sports Hall of Fame it is necessary for the written nomination to demonstrate that the athlete / team / builder possesses qualities which will be an inspiration to others. Documentary proof of achievements needs to be attached.
