It was a full house for the Tumbler Ridge Teen Idol Contest held at the Community Centre on April 25. This large audience was waiting to be entertained by a group of Tumbler Ridge?s talented residents. While the contestants were getting ready to sing their choice of song to the audience, family members and friends of the performers were anxiously waiting.
Erin Hanna was the MC and started the afternoon off by announcing that a surprise give-a-way of a NHL Jersey was up for the taking. To win this you had to be sitting on the chair that had a bag of jellybeans taped to the underside. The lucky audience member was Kelsey Legault who won the jersey.
Then down to serious business as each age group performed: 5-11/ Amber Lynn Towledo, Kyla Guske, Kenesha Mercredi, Sara Girton and Kelly Fry, 12-14 / Symone O?Neill, Tasi Delpierre and Raena Phillips,15 plus/ Andy Smith, Fawn Pack, Stephanie McBain and Chantel Ouimet.
During intermissions former Idol winners performed for the audience. While the votes were being counted Erin Hanna entertained the crowd.
Winners were announced: 5-11 was Kelly Fry, 12-14 Raena Phillips, 15 and up group was Andy Smith. All these kids were winners as it takes a lot to get up in front of a huge audience and perform, especially for those doing it for the first time. Nice to see Tumbler Ridge has great talent.
The sponsors for this event were the District of Tumbler Ridge, Tumbler Ridge Community Arts Council, Lakeview Credit Union, KC?s Dollar Store and Jade True Value Hardware.
