Martial arts clubs from across BC, Alberta and the NWT have been invited to the Tumbler Ridge TaeKwon Do Western Friendship Tournament on Saturday, May 29, 2004.

Competition will begin at 10 am in the TRSS gymnasium. Registration for competitors will begin at 8:30 am in the school foyer, and the officials? meeting will begin at 9 am sharp. Officiating will be under the direction of 5th-degree black belt instructor, Boris Celis of Regina. Medals will be awarded to competitors immediately following each event.

The public is invited to attend the tournament for a nominal admission fee. Clubs have been invited from Regina, Sask.; Grande Prairie and Fort MacMurray, AB; Fort Smith, NT; and Smithers, Kelowna, Fort Nelson and Mackenzie, BC. Following a full day of demonstrations and competition in patterns and sparring, participants and their families will enjoy swimming and pizza in the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre.

The Tumbler Ridge TaeKwon Do Association continues to have a strong club under the leadership of 2nd-degree black belt instructor Lukasz Beilecki, and 1st-degree black belts Pernell Kirby and Karolina Bielecka. Tumbler Ridge has been hosting local tournaments since 1995 and looks forward once again to welcoming visiting clubs from throughout the western region.
