Tumbler Ridge?s Red Hat Society

The ?TR Grizzly Girls? chapter of theSociety held a pot luck lunch/birthday party at the Community Centre on April 25th to celebrate International Red Hat Society Day.

This day also marked the 10th Anniversary of the first outing held in California with the founding queen mother, Sue Ellen Cooper and her friends wearing red hats and purple outfits.

Inspired by a popular poem by Jenny Joseph entitled ?Warning?, which begins ?When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple with a red hat which doesn?t go and doesn?t suit me!?…the Red Hat Society is a women?s organization based on the concept that aging isn?t necessarily all bad. Red Hatters just want to have fun!!

In an article in the Costco Connection (2005) Sue Ellen Cooper is reported as stating that the Red Hat Society had grown to 37,000 chapters worldwide and is still growing.

Here in our little town of Tumbler Ridge it is flourishing with a membership of around 25 ladies. We have been a registered chapter of the Red Hat Society since 2003.
