The Victim Assistance Program (VAP) in Tumbler Ridge is available to provide support and assistance to victims & witnesses of crime and other trauma. Victim Assistance Workers can provide case specific file updates, general information about the criminal justice system and referral to community agencies such as; Legal Services, Crown Counsel, Counselling services, safe homes and services for children, to name a few. VAP workers also provide court support services and emotional support, as well as ensuring victims are informed about their rights under the Victims of Crime Act.
Being a victim of crime is often a sudden and unpredictable event. Victim Services can provide emotional support including information about normal reactions in abnormal circumstances. Often having an independent person who can listen and validate one’s experience assists people through their healing process.
