Lindsay Vandale, and summer students Shayna Isaak and Megan Vivian greeted approximately 120 guests at the June 29th opening of the Visitor Centre. Vandale was disappointed that the new signage was not received in time for this event, but lack of signs did not effect residents who turned out in record numbers to enjoy a free lunch of hot dogs and burgers, and to admire the new mural painted on the building.
Local artist Joan Zimmer created the mural, taking around 60 hours to do so.
Lindsay is a certified trainer, receiving that status in April, 2007 which ensures that the summer students hired here have the same standard of excellence as any other Visitor Centre in British Columbia. Vandale says that these changes are a ?step in the right direction? for tourism in Tumbler Ridge.
Entertainment was provided by Brian Bray and Erin Hanna, (TRUMP). The scheduled evening events were rained out.
The Visitor Centre is open during the summer seven days/week, from 9am to 5pm. They are located on Southgate in front of the Blue Caboose.
