On Friday, May 22, our school will be hosting an orientation day to help you learn how to help your child prepare for school.
This will run from 1:00 – 2:30. If you know of someone in the community who has a child that is Kindergarten age, please encourage them to register. All registered Kindergartens will be getting an invitation in the mail.
The Lions Club of Tumbler Ridge have contributed $200 towards the purchase of resource bags to be given to kindergarten registrants for the 2009 / 2010 year. This community-minded organization recognized the value in supporting families in getting a head start in lifelong learning.
Mrs. Merry and Mrs. Gainor have been working with our students with pattern designs and fabric. Their services have been paid for by a donation from Peace River Coal. The staff and students have truly appreciated their expertise!
School District Reconfiguration
The meetings will occur in Tumbler Ridge on May 20th at 5 pm following the board meeting at city hall in Tumbler Ridge; Dawson Creek on May 21st at 7 pm at O?Brien and Chetwynd on May 22nd at 7 pm at Little Prairie School. These meetings are replacing the meetings that were previously scheduled for the first week in May.
Our parent group has received a grant for $20,000. They have also raised about $15,000. The playground equipment will be ordered and installed this summer.
Most recently we need to thank the Lundgard family for their $200 donation as well as, the Western Canadian Coal employees for their bottle donations all year long. The Tobin family has been diligent about sorting and recycling the bottles to support this cause.
Pitch In Week
Students will be helping to clean up our community either on May 11th, 13th or 14th. The days that classes are going varies so please chat with your child about this and if your child has work gloves, please send them to school for their day. Also sending them in clothes that are suitable for a day such as this would be wise!
Mrs. Bertrand would be interested in knowing if there is any interest in starting a community garden. She would need individuals to help with the planting, care, harvesting and selling of goods. The proceeds will go back into the school as a fundraiser for whatever we deem appropriate. Please contact Mrs. Bertrand at the school asap as we need enough individuals to help before the project can be initiated.
Jogging after School
Mrs. Bertrand is starting a jogging club on Wednesdays from 2:35 -3:05 after school starting on May 13th and will end on June 17th unless otherwise posted.
