It took longer than expected, but those who have seen the newly renovated Wilderness Lodge agree that the results are spectacular. From the gorgeous tiles that grace all of the common areas to the stylish furniture, this hotel will provide visitors to Tumbler Ridge a comfortable and classy place to kick back and relax.
Manager Ralph Higdon says, ?We are happy to show the public around. With the major economic changes that are occurring in Tumbler Ridge right now, there is a need for more accommodations, and we offer first class, affordable suites.? Each one of the 50 one and two bedroom suites boasts wood flooring, new appliances, new bathroom and light fixtures and designer style furniture. There are also suites that have Jacuzzi tubs and fireplaces if you are looking for the ultimate hotel experience.
A fitness facility will be available on site to hotel guests, as well as a business room complete with computers and high speed internet access. This allows business travelers to hold meetings and cater for themselves and maintain privacy. There will be a kitchen and dining room for hotel guests as well as room service for those who choose to stay in their rooms and enjoy the comfort. There are three wheelchair accessible suites as well as railings on the stairs for the visually impaired.
The construction phase is nearing completion. There have been some hold ups recently due to a strike. ?Our furniture shipments were held up for a while due to the strike?, says Higdon. But with more furniture arriving daily, that appears to be a thing of the past.
The elevator is now in and functioning and workers are waiting for the appliances which will be arriving within the next week or so.
During the construction phase, the owner has hired locally and will continue this practice once the hotel opens in September. Hotel staff will be hired locally. Not only were local people hired for construction but local businesses have benefited as well. Mattresses for the beds were purchased locally through the furniture store. They have been delivered and are now in the process of being set up in preparation for the opening.
?We are looking forward to being open to the public? says Ralph Higdon. ?People who stay with us will enjoy our wilderness like setting while being within all amenities.?
