The downpour(s) that Tumbler Ridge experienced over the August long weekend did not dampen the enthusiasm of the crowds that turned out to watch the annual Grizfest Parade.
Grtizzly Valley Players won first place in the non-Profit category and also won as the best overall float. The theme was the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and on the float were Erin Hanna, Dane, Sherry and Heather Berringer, and Rose Huneault. Hanna said that it took the group an evening to put the float together.
In the Business Category LaPrairie Crane placed first, ShopEasy placed second, and RE/MAX, Dawson Creek Realty placed third.
P.A.L.S placed second and Grizfest placed third in the not-for-profit category. Honorable mention went to the Grizzly Valley Saddle Club. The District of Tumbler Ridge placed first in the Municipal Government category, and the Tumbler Ridge Fire Department placed second.
The Tumbler Ridge Children?s Centre placed first in the children?s category, with the Tumbler Ridge Public Library in second place.
Also out in force were our volunteer firefighters who were raising funds for the annual Muscular Distrophy drive. This year the boot drive (so called because one drops a donation into a firemans boot) raised $2894.92 for MD. This tops last year?s donations by $1239.61. The firefighters were at ShopEasy, the Grizfest Grounds and in front of the Liquor store. Volunteers and event organizers did an outstanding job of organizing the parade.
