With fresh snow recently arriving in Tumbler Ridge, Northern Recreational Developments is gearing up for what organizers hope will be one of the best dog races held here in years.
Seasoned trail groomer Larry White has been prepping the trails for this years event and conditions are looking very favorable. After last years disappointing turnout, due to poor weather conditions, race organizers are hoping the snow will stick around long enough to entice regional mushers to what?s shaping up to be an exciting event.
?Local business and industry support is fantastic this year?, says race organizer Stacey Lajeunesse, ?so we are looking forward to hosting a successful race this year. This year we are adding a Celebrity Class to the event, so spectators will get to see some prominent members of our community, who have helped to get Tumbler Ridge back on its feet economically. Representatives from LedCor, Tercon and the municipality have pledged their interest in this event, so it should be fun to watch these individuals try their luck at dog sledding. We are even trying to convince our MLA Blair Lekstrom to participate and possibly even a local member of the RCMP?.
If you would like to help with a donation of any kind or by volunteering some of your time to the cause, please call 242-4499 and we will put you to good use. It takes many volunteers, resources and spectators to host a successful event so come on out and show your community pride by supporting the races this year.
