Fort St. John, BC ? WorkSafeBC recently announced that all employers who achieve a BC Certificate of Recognition (COR) with Enform will now be eligible for rebate, regardless of their Workers? Compensation Classification Unit (CU).
The announcement came Tuesday June 6 at Enform?s COR Forum, held at the Quality Inn, Fort St. John where more than 50 COR holders gathered for an afternoon of presentations and discussion on due diligence, safety programs, and the COR program. Steve Symon, manager of the Partners Program with WorkSafeBC?s Industry Services Division, said the decision came as a result of continued and strengthened partnership between industry and WorkSafeBC.
According to Symon, ?Since the BC COR pilot program was initiated in 2004, incentives (or rebates) have been limited to those companies registered in 11 oil and gas Classification Units such as drilling, seismic, pipelines or production; the Board?s recent decision allows us to expand the CU?s to include the service sector companies who were previously not eligible for any premium rebates.? This is good news for companies who hold or obtain a COR in 2006.
Enform COR Program Manager Brad Jackson says ?It?s an exciting announcement for our BC COR holders. Employers who implement a safety management system and achieve a COR should do so because it makes good business sense; however, the rebate does provide an incentive, or reward, for those companies who demonstrate commitment to injury reduction. This decision by WorkSafeBC illustrates their commitment to the Partners Program and the steady expansion of the COR program across the province.?
Enform ? the training and safety certification arm of the petroleum industry – will host two more forums for COR holders: Calgary, AB on September 28 and Nisku, AB on September 29. Each event will begin with a noon luncheon followed by presentations and open discussion. The keynote speaker will be David Myrol – legal counsel for the firm of McLennan Ross and a leading expert in occupational health and safety law in Canada.
